Maulsby Kimball was born 21 May 1904 in New York, and died 17 Dec 1987. The 1925 NY State Census shows the family living in Aurora, Erie County NY. Much was written about Maulsby, March 14, 1986, by Gloria Beverage, Community Life Editor, in the Auburn Journal, Placer County, CA. To quote Gloria's article in part "The artist is as colorful as his paintings. At age 84, Maulsby Kimball makes no apologies for his painfully slow gait or his deteriorating hearing and vision. A native of Buffalo, New York, Kimball started studying art in 1934 at the Art Student's League in New York. In 1928 or 1929 he said, "It hit me that was what life was all about" He went back to his hometown and studied in a school there for two years. From there Kimball studied French modem painting with Henry McCarter at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. But what probably changed Kimball's attitude toward art was his encounter with the art works of Rudolf Steiner. "I got the feeling and symbolism that I've been working on ever since," he explained.

Maulsby's quote "when a person sees a beautiful sunset, there are beautiful sensations that wash over him. Those are the types of sensations I hope to evoke with my paintings"

Two of his paintings are on display at the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard. Others are in private collections in 16 countries on 4 continents. In 1985 he was invited to exhibit his paintings and lecture at the Idiart Festival in Chartres, France."

Although he did not favor any one of the 32 paintings in the Auburn show over another, Kimball explained, "a look at the price tag gives an indication of their value to the artist". The higher priced ones, including "Ascension" and "Come Unto Me" at $1200.00 each, are one-of-a kind.
